Finding good niche ideas to use in your online business is not just luck, it is a process of research and the help of a couple of online keyword research tools.
In today’s article, I would like to share my knowledge of finding and narrowing down niches that can be used in any kind of online business.
How To Find and Choose Your Niche
There are many ways in which we can go about narrowing down a list of good niche ideas, however, there are a couple of tools that I will recommend to do this with, but first of all we need a list of ideas.
How To Choose You Niche:
- Gather a list of possible niches Ideas.
- Fine-tune these into a “Good niche ideas” list.
- Use Google search and Jaaxy keyword research tool to find related micro niches.
- Finalize your list of micro-niches with low competition and high search volume.
- Finalize your list and select the winning niche
1: Gather a List of Possible Niche Ideas
When creating a list of possible niches to build a website around, we need to know where to start.
My advice for this is to choose niches based on the things you love to do, You know lots about, or you have to do often.
Example of broad niche selection:
- Skydiving
- Fitness
- Health
- Pets
- Finance
This is a list of broad niche ideas. You can have as many as you like, just keep in mind if you are creating an online business from this, the more you enjoy it, and the more you know about it, the easier it will be later on.
2: Fine-Tuning Into A "Good Niche Ideas" List

We are now going to break down the broad niche list into separate micro-niche lists to further narrow down our target audience and overall niche categories.
How To Break Down Your List Into Micro Niches:
For each of the words on our list, we are going to come up with 5 – 10 categories or micro-niches based on the main head keyword or niche.
For example:
Broad Keyword = Skydiving: Category Keywords = Skydiving Jumps, Skydiving Equipment, Where To Skydive, Skydiving Safety, Sky Diving New Zealand, etc.
Broad Keyword = Health: Category Keywords = Supplements, Healthy Eating, Natural Health Medicine, Health Tests, Health Tips, etc.
If you know the broad niches well, you should not have too much problem coming up with 5 to 10 category ideas.
Once we have done this for each broad niche keyword, we can move on to the keyword research stage.
3: Using Google and Jaaxy to Find Related Micro-Niches
I use two tools online to find related search terms in each category. The idea here is to find other keywords people are searching for.
If you open Google Chrome and start typing in one of the keywords from your list, you will see Google auto-generate a list of closely related keywords hoping to predict what I am searching for.
The related keywords can spark ideas to add to your list.
These are the most common keywords people are typing into Google based on your entered keyword, so you know these are what people are after inside of your niche.
Do this for each keyword a write down any keywords that might make good niche ideas.

Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool
Now that we have a list of good niche ideas and keywords we can investigate further. with the help of a tool named Jaaxy.
Jaaxy tells us information on keywords like:
- Jaaxy will tell us how many times on average a keyword or phrase is searched for on Google per month.
- Will tell us how much competition or other websites are trying to rank in Google for these keywords.
- Jaaxy will also show other closely related keywords.
- If the keyword is available as a domain name.
Overall Jaaxy will let us know if a keyword or niche is oversaturated, and how much traffic your niche or keywords are getting.
How To Use Jaaxy To Validate Your Good Niche Ideas
You will get 30 free Jaaxy searches after you make a Jaaxy account, this is free to do, however, I would suggest joining the Wealthy Affiliate platform with the Free Starter membership as this includes Jaaxy search, and you will still get your free searches.
Wealthy Affiliate is a make-money online training platform. Read my Wealthy Affiliate review here <<<
Step one: Make your free account with Jaaxy, or Wealthy Affiliate.
Step 2: Open Jaaxy and enter your keyword. Press enter.
Step 3: Analyze the information:
Here are the results in Jaaxy for the keyword “Healthy Eating”

There are 4 main columns we need to pay close attention to.
- The keyword column: The keyword you entered and related keywords.
- The AVG column: This is the average amount of Google searches per month on average.
- The QSR column: This stands for “Quotated search result” and is a competition score for that keyword. The lower the score the better. I always aim for under 100.
- Domains column. This tells us if the keyword is available for purchase as a domain/website address.
Almost all related keywords to “Healthy eating” are over 100 QSR, and there are no available domain names.
This tells me the market for this area is well oversaturated, and would not be a good online business to get into.
The next example keyword I tried off the list was “Skydiving”
These are the results:

The board keyword skydiving is way too high and not specific enough, however, I did see many skydiving location queries come up. ( I Have marked these with a red dot )
I searched ” Skydiving Locations, and these were the results:

Bingo! This is exactly what I wanted to find. A list of keywords, based around skydiving locations, and they all have a QSR score of under 100.
Not just that, many domain names are available including “Skydiving Places.com”
If you do this with all the keywords we had in our good niche ideas list and take note of the results, you will end up with a list of the winning micro-niche keywords.
Note: The higher the AVG column and the lower the QSR, the better.
4: Finalizing Your List Of High Search, Low Competition Niche Keywords
Now that you have run your keyword list through Google or Jaaxy, you will know the competition and search volumes for each category.
You now need to select your keyword or niche finalists. I would recommend narrowing this list down to about 5 keyword niches.
To do this you will need to think about search volume and keyword competition. How much do you think you would enjoy the niche, how much do you know about it?
Think about the whole picture, not just search volume and QSR score.
Put these into order from your number 1 choice to the least.
Finalize Your Niche Choice
After selecting your top 1 – 5 good niche ideas, you can make your decision…but not after a little more research.
Before I make my final decision, I would type each keyword into Google and hit the enter button, this will show us the websites that are ranking for the keyword.
Do this with all of them, just to get a feel of who else is ranking for the keywords, what wording they are using, the style of their websites, etc.
If you like, do another search on Jaaxy and dig deeper into the rabbit hole.
The more we know the better prepared we will be.
Finally, make your decision on the winning niche.
WARNING: Do not pick more than 1 or 2 niche websites to work on or build. You will spread yourself too thin, and progress will be painfully slow on all websites in regards to rankings and traffic.
Summary Of How To Find Good Niche Ideas and Choosing Your Winning Niche
Through the process of starting broad, filtering out micro-niches with tools like Jaaxy, and deriving a list of good niche ideas to build an online business around, we can be sure we are finding high searches for keywords that are not drowning in competition.
Research is key!
Remember, you need to have fun with your website! Make it your own, keep building and growing, and you will find success.
